Biography
After finishing a BA degree in Industrial Design Engineering in 2014, Beatriz Suárez started her career on Fashion: carrying out a technical degree as a fashion pattern maker and finally graduated in a Master degree in Fashion design. She has a deep academic knowledge and a 6-year-professional experience combining technical and creative skills at the garment production process. She has worked as a fashion pattern maker, creating ceremony and wedding dresses; as a textile quality technician, following the industrial production of garments and dealing with international suppliers to ensure their right fitting; as a designer, working in many productions for theatre and dance performances such as the Spanish National Ballet, the National Drama Centre in Madrid, Mérida Classical Theatre Festival, among others; and finally she has worked as a fashion stylist for editorial photography and advertising campaigns.
She has a genuine passion for developing concepts, transferring them into the garments and also for sustainable processes and materials; she has investigated the plastic and aesthetic capacities of the eco-friendly leather from the kombucha tea, as an alternative material for costume design. Through her work she examines how this biomaterial is capable of expressing multiple narrative ideas, concepts and feelings through its own visual appearance and through the interaction with the user; studies that she has presented in various exhibitions and international conferences.
